後期 第10回目の英語村を開催しました

2016年度、後期最後の英語村を12月8日(木)に開催しました。
Katrina先生、理系のMichael先生、Georgia先生が英語村に来て下さいました。
今回は、クリスマスのスペシャルイベントがありました。
前期に引き続き、後期も英語村村長(mayor)のMary先生、本学における英語村開設者の清藤先生をはじめ、多くの方々のご協力を賜り、英語村を無事に開催することができました。
この場を借りて御礼申し上げます。
全20回のセッションには、延べ約500人の学生が訪れ、英語によるコミュニケーションを楽しみました。
来年度も、できるだけ多くの学生に参加してもらいたいです。（奈良）
以下、Katrina先生からのメッセージです。
We wanted to extend a big thank you to each and everyone one of you who took time to join us at the English Village this past few weeks.
It has been a real pleasure to get to talk with you. We hope that our casual, friendly setting has helped boost your confidence in using your English.
This last week was our last event for the semester, and so we hosted a special Christmas themed event.
Kudos to everyone who tried out the Christmas games, as the English level was quite a bit higher.
We enjoyed hearing what you are looking forward to this Christmas, as well as singing “Jingle Bells” with you.
We look forward to seeing you again.

後期、第9回目の英語村を12月1日(木)に開催しました。
Katrina先生、理系のMichael先生、Georgia先生が英語村に来て下さっています。
今後の英語村のスケジュールは 12/8です。
今年度、最後の英語村です。是非、ご参加下さい！
当日には、クリスマス・イベントがあります。
英語村で難易度の異なるさまざまなゲームを楽しむこともできますが、自分の話したいトピックでディスカッションすることもできます。
お昼休み、ランチを食べながらの会話でもＯＫです。

We had a great time at the English Village special Game Bonanza event!
In addition to everyone getting to play their favorite games, we also introduced a new game (drum roll), Pictionary!
Each student had to choose one item from a topic, and then they had to draw it on the white board.
The fellow students then had to guess what was being drawn in English.
The game was a good mixture of laughs and challenges.
We hope more of you will join us for next week’s special event, Christmas!

We were very happy to meet and converse with some new and old faces this past Thursday.
Lately we have learned so many interesting things about Japan, cultural highlights, special events that are happening in Chino, and much more. It’s always a pleasure for us to talk with you.

This week’s English game challenge was “bananagrams”.
In this game students must race to build as many connecting words as they can.
It has quickly become a favorite!
We wanted to clarify that while each week we highlight a new game which is progressively more challenging, we still have all of the original games. So if you have become concerned that the level of English has risen, and perhaps it’s now out of your level, DON’T WORRY, there is something for everybody at the English Village.

This week we had the opportunity to have many interesting conversations with those who attended the English Village.
Thank you for talking with us! It really makes our day when you take time to talk with us.
We also enjoy playing games with you. This week we introduced a new game “Upwords”, which encourages spelling and vocabulary skills.
Those who played said it was the most challenging game to date. Why don’t you give it a try?

This week we celebrated Halloween by dressing up, playing Halloween themed games, and learning some cultural facts about Halloween in the United States. We had a hoot of a time! Happy Halloween!

Today’s English village was so much fun! A big “Thank you” to everyone who took time to join us.
We added a new game to the mix, “Spot it”, which encourages vocabulary usage.
Additionally we showed cased two books on Texas and Washington state.
This coming Thursday (Oct. 27th) we are having a Halloween special event.

A big shout-out to everyone who joined us this week for the English village.
This week we added the game “Apples to Apples” (Apples to Apples is a game of hilarious comparisons which encourages you to expand your vocabulary and thinking skills.) Are you interested in visiting America? How about Washington state?

This week we had a lot of fun talking with everyone. For those of you who haven’t visited the English village yet we encourage you to stop by. If you only have a few minutes why not join one of the conversation groups and tell us about yourself and your field of study.
Or, if you have more time, why not join one of the game groups. Two games that are currently popular are AGO (an UNO style game that encourages English conversational skills) and Scattergories (an English “vocabulary challenge” game.) See you next week! – Katrina.
