英語村「10月第4週-11月第1週」

第四回目の英語村の様子を話します。翌日の金曜がハロウィーンでした！

なのでカトリーナ先生は人気キャラクター「ミニヨン」の姿です。先生たちがいろいろな小道具を家から持参してくださいました。学生たちも、それぞれミニ仮装をしていますね。

この日のメイントピックは、今まで観たなかで自分が一番怖かったと思う映画の話。一人ひとりが英語で説明して、聴いている人がへえーそんな作品があったのか・・と感心していました。

第五回の英語村で印象に残った話題は、夏休みにスウェーデンに滞在してきた学生のひとりが、英語村にお土産にもってきたキャンディのことでした。

同じキャンディですが、味つけがはっきり違っていました。写真のキャンディがそれです。カトリーナ先生によると、日本とアメリカで味が違う同製品は他にもいくつもありますとのお話でした。

Happy Halloween!

We encountered something very interesting at English Village today. A student had traveled abroad to Europe during the summer, and came across a bag of candy that looked very similar to a bag of candy we have here in Japan. 

In Japan “Werther’s Original” is an imported, caramel flavored, hard candy. But in Europe it is a soft, chewy candy, and the caramel taste is different. 

This led to a discussion of how imported foods can change in taste and texture to encourage the importers to consume the foreign food/beverage.
